Course description: The first part of the course will be devoted to basic point-set topology,

including continuity, connectedness,  compactness, product spaces, quotient spaces,

separation axioms, metric spaces, complexes, and the classification of surfaces.

The second part of the course will focus on the fundamental group, and covering spaces.

We hope to introduce simplicial homology as well.

 

Homework: There will be about a dozen assignments. Late homework will not be accepted.

The grader is Hadi Bigdely. Please submit the homework to his mailbox on the due date.

Midterm: There will be a midterm during the semester on 2:30-4pm, October 19th in B1214.

Final Exam: 3 hour exam covering the entire course on 9am, Dec 19th .

Calculators: A small (non-scientific) calculator will be permitted during the exams.

Grades: 25% HW + 25% Midterm + 50% Final

Supplemental: There will be an official supplemental exam worth 50% of the mark.

You know it: Mastery of the material requires that the students devote a significant amount of time to reading

the textbook and solving problems.
