PCA Module Winter Term, 2004
Maths DDB - Cal III

Comprehensive Assessment Module
A portfolio approach

Introduction
During this term, you will be given a number of homework assignments. One will be specifically designed for the CAM, the others will be more closely based on work done in class. You will have to compile a portfolio of assignments, including the one specifically intended for the CAM, and at least two others.
Notions from mathematics are used to derive models of physical situations, and the results of the mathematical analysis are used to derive understanding of the real physical settings.
Competencies
Work required
You must complete the required number of assignments, to complete the required portfolio. The assignment designated as specifically for the CAM may be done in teams of up to three people; the other assignments may be done collaboratively, but each student ought to submit his/her own work. In the case where a group of students form a team, the portfolio will consist of the CAM assignment, plus two of the non-CAM assignments from each student on the team.
Timetable
To be determined as the assignments are given to the class.
The marks for this module represent 20% of the class mark for this course. That 20% will consist of 10% for the CAM assignment and 5% for each of the other assignments; the CAM assignment mark will apply to every team member, and the other assignment marks will apply individually.

There will be a penalty of one mark per weekday starting from the second day after the deadline. A pass for the module will be any mark greater than 12/20, provided all graded components are completed. A passing grade will be given for work that demonstrates clarity, coherence, comprehension, and completeness.
