As the course progresses I will indicate what sections of the text are important for the course.

• The review part of the course is covered in chapters 1,3,4 of the text. All the material in these chapters is important.
• Sections 3-6 of chapter 2 contain important motivational applications of the theory we are going to develop later.
• Chapter 5 will be covered in its entirety. It contains the basic theory of vector spaces and inner product spaces.
• Test 1 will be held in class on Thursday October 14 and will cover the material in sections 1-5 of chapter 5.
• We will cover only sections 1 and 2 of chapter 6. Section 3 is optional.
• We will cover only sections 1-3 in chapter 7 and pages 299-300 of section 4.
• In chapter 7 we will cover sections 1-3 and pages 304-305 and definition 7.32 of section 5.
• Test 2 will be held in class on Thursday November 18 and will cover material from Chapters 6 and 7.
• In chapter 8 we will cover section 1, pages 329-331 of section 2, pages 329-333 of section 3 and section 4.
• In chapter 9 we will cover pages 369-372 of section 4 and pages 378-387 (non-defective matrices only) of section 5.
• In chapter 10 we will cover section 3 and pages 407-418 of section 4.
