MATH 247: Course Description

• INSTRUCTOR: John Labute
• OFFICE/HOURS: BH 1112/MWF 9:30-11:30 or by appointment.
• TEXT: S. Axler, Linear Algebra Done Right, Springer Verlag.
• SYLLABUS: Vector Spaces,Linear Mappings, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors, Inner Product Spaces, Operators on Inner product Spaces, Operators on Real and Complex Vector Spaces, Determinants, Applications.
• ASSIGNMENTS: There will be 6-8 assignments.
• MIDTERM TEST: There will be one class test which will be held shortly before the midterm break.
• FINAL EXAM: There will be a three hour final exam; no calculators will be allowed.
• GRADING: If A = assignment mark, T = test mark, E = exam mark and F = final mark (all out of 100), then F=.1A + .1T + .8E. No credit will be given for doing "extra work". There will be a supplemental exam given in August 2006.
