Syllabus:
Review of group theory. Sylow theorems.
Representation theory of algebras and finite groups.
Basic commutative algebra; prime ideals and localization,
Hilbert Nullstellensatz, integral extensions.
Dedekind domains.
The category of R-modules; chain conditions,
tensor products, flat, projective and injective modules.
Assignments:
Assignments
will be handed out roughly every two weeks.
It is your responsiblity to make sure that your work is handed in on time!
Grading Scheme : There are two possible schemes,
and I will take the maximum of those.
1. 40% Weekly assignments, 60% Final.
2. 100% Final.
Final grades Here are your final grades
for the course. I will be out of town from December 14, but if you have a question
about your final mark you can reach me by email. You can make an appointment
to see my any time after January 2 if you want to go over your
final exam.
