Trees, higher categories and operads
ABSTRACT:
A distinguishing feature of Michael Batanin's globular approach to
higher dimensional algebra, is that trees are regarded properly as
combinatorial objects, rather than as certain pointed one-dimensional
CW complexes as is more common in algebraic topology. In this talk the
role of trees both in higher category theory and in the description of
the topological operads important in homotopy theory will be reviewed.
