TEXTBOOK:

J. Stewart, Multivariable Calculus, Fouth Edition, Brooks/Cole Publishing Company, 1999.

SYLLABUS:

The course (3 credits) covers: multiple integrals (double and triple integrals are used to compute probabilities, surface areas and volumes), vector calculus (vector fields, the Fundamental Theorem for line integrals, Green's Theorem, Stokes' Theorem and the Divergence Theorem are emphasized), the second order differential equations. Roughly say, we will spend 4 weeks for Chapter 16 Multiple Integrals, 5 weeks for Chapter 17 Vector Calculus, and 2 weeks for Chapter 18 Second Order Differential Equations.

ASSIGNMENTS:

The weekly assignments should be done independently and no late assignments will be accepted. Name, course number, and section must be written on each assignment sheet. The sheets must be numbered and stapled together. Solutions to the assignments will be available at the copy centre.

MIDTERM TEST:

One test will be given after the first six weeks' work is completed. Missed tests cannot be made up. The final examination will cover the entire term’s work

FINAL EXAMINATION:

It is a 3-hour long examination, which covers all topics in this course.

GRADING POLICY:

Assignment work: 10%; Mid-Term Test: 20%; Final Examination: 70% , or 100% of the final exam, whichever is higher.
