This seminar is aimed primarily at my graduate students, although others are welcome to attend and even participate. The participants will lecture on topics that are closely related to, or provide background for, their thesis problems.

Here are a few rules of the seminar:

1. Each week will be devoted to lectures by one or, usually, two students. The lecturer is encouraged to prepare a set of notes and to make these available ahead of their presentation.

2. This is a working seminar, aimed at students with varying backgrounds. It is important that lectures be accessible to all participants.

3. Speakers should allow, in fact, welcome, interruptions from the audience.

4. Participants are encouraged to ask questions during the presentations, at any time.

Here is the schedule (to be made up as we go along).

Wednesday, September 2, 2:00 PM.
Organisational meeting, in the Mathematics Lounge.

Wednesday, September 9, 2:00 PM.
The participants who did not yet introduce themselves will do so (for about 15 minutes each.) Then Cameron will give an introduction to ``Rigid analytic modular forms on the p-adic upper half plane". Some references for this topic include chapter 4 of my NSF-CBMS book ``Rational points on modular elliptic curves", or the article by Dasgupta and Teitelbaum in the Arizona Winter school proceedings that can be downloaded from Dasgupta's web page.

Wednesday, September 16, 2:00 PM.
I (Darmon) was out of town on that day, but Cameron Franc started to lecture on the p-adic upper half-plane and its rigid analytic structure.

Wednesday, September 23, 2:00 PM.
Shahab Shahabi and Luca Candelori will give short presentations of their respective research topics. After that Luca will give a one hour introduction to algebraic de Rham cohomology, which will be completed next week. The notes of Luca's lecture can be found on his web page.

A possible topic suggestion for later. Barry Mazur and Karl Rubin have posted an article on the Arxiv on Kolyvagin systems. Would anyone be interested in presenting it? Yu perhaps, who is working on Kolyvagin's methods?

Wednesday, September 30, 2:00 PM.
Luca Candelori continued his presentation of algebraic deRham cohomology. Luca's lecture can be found at web page.

Wednesday, October 7, 2:00 PM.
Luca Candelori: deRham cohomology (30 minutes or so). Afterwards Marc Masdeu will lecture on higher Abel-Jacobi maps.
