Research Interests

I work on infinite groups and 3-manifolds. Specifically, my interests include:

1) Geometric Group Theory including the following subjects:
Word Hyperbolic Groups, CAT(0) Groups, Automatic Groups.
2) Coherent Groups .
A group G is coherent, if every finitely generated subgroup of G is finitely presented.
3) Residual Finiteness and Subgroup Separability.
A group G is residually finite, if the trivial subgroup is the intersection of finite index subgroups of G.
G  is subgroup separable, if  every finitely generated subgroup is the intersection of finite index subgroups of G.
4) 3-Manifolds. My research in 3-manifolds has focused on coherence and subgroup separability.

Some of my colleagues in Montreal with related interests are

Mikael Pichot who studies analytic aspects of infinite groups and
Steven Boyer who is a 3-manifold theorist.
