Title: “A guided tour to Kazhdan's property-T”
Date: 3:30pm
Wednesday, March 5th.
Room: 920 Burnside
Abstract:
Introduced by D. Kazhdan in the late 60's, property-T is a
representation-theoretic form of rigidity. Well-known
applications of
property-T include: classifying normal subgroups of
lattices, proving
uniqueness of measures on spheres and constructing graphs of
high
connectivity.
This talk is intended as an overview of Kazhdan's property-T.
We will
discuss various equivalent definitions, as well as basic
examples, many of them arising from group actions.
