Research Group Members

Combinatorial group theory has a long tradition at McGill, starting with W.O.J. Moser who wrote one of the first books on the subject "Generators and Relations for Discrete Groups", with H.S.M. Coxeter. The currently active members of the department in this area are:

Inna Bumagin -   Geometric Group theory.
Olga Kharlampovich - Free groups, varieties and periodic groups, one-relator groups, word-hyperbolic groups, connections to model theory.
John Labute - Lie algebras and central series of groups, infinite Galois theory and pro-p-groups.
Alexei Myasnikov - Algebraic geometry over groups, combinatorial group theory.
Denis Serbin - Algebraic geometry over groups, combinatorial group theory.

Daniel Wise - Residually finite groups, small-cancellation theory, nonpositively curved spaces, fundamental groups of 3-Manifolds.
