Transfer to Maths & Stats

This page is intended for students enrolled in other programs wishing to transfer into Maths & Stats.

The minimum course requirements for entry into a majors degree in maths are Vectors, Matrices and Geometry (MATH 133), Calculus 1 (MATH 140) and Calculus 2 (MATH 141)or their equivalents. Calculus 3 (MATH 222) is advantageous.

The first-year courses Algebra 1 (MATH 235), Algebra 2 (MATH 236), Analysis 1 (MATH 242) and Analysis 2 (MATH 243) give (aside from their intended mission) a gentle introduction into the thought processes that it is necessary to develop in order to produce rigorous mathematical arguments and proofs. Many students find these courses challenging.

You may wish to take a detailled look at these courses before taking a final decision.

Please make an appointment to see an advisor. Appointments can be obtained from the undergraduate coordinator in the Maths & Stats office, Burnside Hall, tenth floor.

For transfers that would also include a change of faculty see the McGill page on Faculty Transfer.
