A K-theory for symmetric monoidal categories

Permutative categories are algebras in CAT over a categorical version of the Barratt-Eccles operad. We define a K-theory functor which is a Quillen equivalence between suitably defined model category structures on the category of all permutative categories and the category of Γ-objects in the category of all pointed categories CAT .
