Abstract
I will discuss some (by now) classical results that lead to the discovery of interesting phenomena (such as the automatic continuity) for automorphism groups of certain structures. These will include both countable and continuous (metric) structures. The talk can be treated as an introduction to my talk Wednesday on the GGT seminar.
